Since the travels of Marco Polo over 600 hundred years
ago, China has long been known for its tourist
attractions. Of course the most famous and popular is
the Great Wall of China, and when you go there you will
see tours and travelers all along the more restored
sections of the wall. Other notable Chinese tourist
attractions include the Forbidden City, the Temple of
Heaven, and the Summer Palace, all of which are in
Beijing, the Terracotta Warriors, which are in Xian, and
the waterfront embankment of the Bund, as well as the
Pudong district, which has long been seen as the symbol
of Shanghai.
However there are so many other Chinese tourist
attractions which escape the scrutiny of the
international traveler. Fortunately, Great Wall
Adventure Club runs tours and services to all sorts of
hidden gems. These include ethnic minority villages in
the southeast of China, which resemble more of a
tropical jungle landscape than the usual yellow earth,
cruises down the picturesque Li River and the mighty
Yangtze River, horse and camel riding in Inner Mongolia,
trekking and exploring tours of the peaks and mountains
of Tibet, as well as a host of countless other fun and
exciting China tours. With Great Wall Adventure Club, we
promise the best and most comprehensive China travel
service in order to assure that your tour through China
is one that will bring you memories and stories for a
lifetime. |

HIGHLIGHTED TOURS
ABOUT OUR CHINA
TOURISM
Beijing and
Northern China
The capital of China, Beijing, is the country’s cultural and
political center. Many sections of the Great Wall (as well as
the Ming Tombs) are within the vicinity of Beijing, and the
Forbidden City and Tiananmen Square mark the city center. The
Olympics held in Beijing in 2008 marked the arrival of China as
a world superpower, and some consider it to mark the arrival of
the “Chinese century”. For any first –time visitor to China, a
Beijing tour is a must. Many of our China package tours include
a stop in Beijing, and you will not regret visiting.
Just about 200km outside the city is Chengde, the summer retreat
for China’s Emperors and entourage. Northern China was once
called Manchuria, and the ethnic group here (known as Manchus)
made up the last ruling dynasty, the Qing. Through our China
City Package tours you can visit Chengde. Some of the highlights
of Chengde include the Chengde Summer Palace, and the Eight
Outer Temples, which was built in close imitation to the Potala
Palce in Tibet.
When Emperor Qin Shihuang united China for the first time in 221
BC, he chose Xian as the capital of his empire. When he died, he
buried with him the Terracotta Army, and the discovery of this
army marks Xian’s greatest and most famed attraction. The
capital of Shaanxi province, Xian marks the end of the famed
Silk Road, and in Xian you can see classic Chinese meshed with
Muslim markets and bazaars. Xian is also the only major city in
China to have its ancient city walls still intact, and through
one of our China city tours or China package tours you can guard
its watchtowers as they did hundreds of years ago.
Also in the northern region of China is the province of Inner
Mongolia, and it capital city of Hohot. While a part of China it
shares many similar characteristics with its larger and
independent brother to the north. Here there are grasslands as
far as the eye can see, and in the western areas there are vast
stretches of the Gobi desert. On your China package tour to
Inner Mongolia you can participate in many traditional Mongolian
nomadic activities, like horse back riding, archery, Mongolian
wrestling, and you can even stay in an authentic Mongolia yurt
hut!
Shanghai and the Fertile East
Once you get to the east coast around Jiangsu Province, you
start to get to the driving force of China's rising prosperity .
Of course, the most recognizable of the cities in this region is
Shanghai. Shanghai in the center of China's eastern coastline is
one of China's cultural centers and has a long history as a
trading port and gateway for travelers entering China. China's
biggest and most prosperous city oozes an atmosphere of vitality
and a dynamic which can rival New York in the United States and
Paris of France in terms of modernity. Shanghai's gorgeous night
scene is one of the main highlights that will linger in
visitors' mind owing to its ornate feature after their Shanghai
travel experience. In addition the the China city tours, the
China Package tours often include a stop in this dazzling city,
and if you sign up for a World Expo tour you will not only get
to explore Shanghai and its attractions, but also spend a few
days taking in the World Expo, the year’s biggest event!
Just two hours outside of Shanghai is Suzhou, which is located
in the southeast of Jiangsu Province. The Grand Canal (Sui
Dynasty 581-618), which flows from Beijing to Hangzhou (the
capital of Zhejiang Province) has irrigated Suzhou aiding its
illustrious culture and turning it into prosperous land. It is
of little surprise that Suzhou is called ''Heaven on Earth''.
The 8,483km2 city is bustling with historical remnants and
culture, thus placing Suzhou third behind Beijing and Xi'an for
its historical and cultural significance. Because it so close to
Shanghai, a trip to Suzhou is easy and convenient to arrange
with our China city tours, and a visit there and its surrounding
cities will be a definite highlight of your China travels!
Hangzhou, capital of Zhejiang Province in East China, is one of
the more modern and prosperous cities in China, about 100
kilometers (60 miles) southwest of Shanghai. It sits at the
southern end of the Grand Canal and is one of China's seven
ancient national capitals. Hangzhou's "heavenly" beauty attracts
hundreds of thousands of tourists to its exquisite West Lake (Xi
Hu) area each year to enjoy the placid lake, beautiful gardens,
reflecting pools, lavish temples and lakeside teahouses. If you
look at the back of a 1 Chinese RMB bill, you will see a picture
of West Lake. As is the case with Suzhou, through Great Wall
Adventure Club its easy to arrange a side trip to Hangzhou
through one of our China Package travel tours or our World Expo
tours.
Tibet and the Western Frontier
Long overlooked by western travelers, the western areas of China
hold some of the most incredible and beautiful delights the
country has to offer. In addition to breathtaking natural
wonders, the region is also home to many of the country’s ethnic
minority groups, which add color and a festive atmosphere to the
area. Great Wall Adventure club is dedicated with showing you
this hidden paradise, and you can discover it for yourself
through our various China Adventure and Package tours to the
region. The centerpiece of the western frontier has to be the
“rooftop of the world” Tibet, and its capital of Lhasa. The seat
of the Dali Lama, Lhasa contains the Potala Palace, the Lama’s
official residence, as well as the Jokhang Temple, Sera
Monastery, and the markets of Barkhor Street. Through our China
Adventure tours you can also further explore the western regions
of Tibet, with a visit to Shigatse or a stay at the Mt. Everest
base camp.
The town of Guilin is the jumping off point for a cruise on the
Li River, and a cruise here is one of the most delightful
experiences you can have in the country. The end point of your
cruise will be a stop in Yangshuo, A haven for backpackers,
Yangshuo is characterized by crystal clear rivers, limestone
crags, lush vegetation, traditional Chinese architecture and
customs, which have been immortalized in Chinese classical
landscape paintings and poetry.
Yunnan province, with its capital at Kunming, is home to 25
ethnic minorities, and is endowed with a remarkable traditional
folk culture. And Kunming, the capital city, celebrated as "City
of Eternal Spring", is well known for its diverse cultures,
breath-taking natural scenery and pleasant climate. In a
tropical zone, Kunming is well known for its comfortable weather
condition all year round. Through a Great Wall Adventure Club
China Adventure tour, you can visit this tropical wonderland and
also pay a visit further west to Shangri-la. Many snow-capped
mountains surround Shangri-la. Of these, the three well known
ones are Meili, Balang, and Haba mountains. The Tibetans
consider these mountains sacred.
